Back to Basics

Wednesday was a weird day for punters with the unseasonal wet track and the horrible weather. Hopefully some of you either ignored the advice posted or got to the TAB early and backed Redondo Beach who duly scored at the juicy dividend of $11.30 for the win.
The top class horses have gone but there are winners amongst the still-decent crop running around on the weekend. The summer horses who love the hard tracks return and those who are judged to be less than top class but still go allright come back to pick up the healthy prizemoney on offer.
The Valley race again Friday night with the rail out 7 metres so once again the on-pacers will be to the fore. I only like a couple here, race 2 is the smallest field of the night with only seven runners before scratchings. Gusinsky can dictate the race here, he led at Geelong last start and was a comfortable winner, he steps up to 1600 metres which I think will suit and I think he can lead all the way.
Race 4 sees Swirly Dream entered again, she was scratched last week, this is a harder race than last week but her form is still very impressive, she will race on speed and be hard to beat.
Sandown is a good standard meeting again. Midweek rain would probably see the track slightly rain affected, probably a dead surface. Race 2 is the Merson Cooper Stakes, a Listed race for 2 year olds over 1000m. Lee Freedman has Kalash entered, a $700,000 yearling by Exceed and Excel whose progeny have been brilliant in this new 2 year old season. He is owned by Darley Stud, the breeding arm of Sheik Mohammed of Dubai's racing empire and can kick things off well on Saturday.
I have been considering all week whether to give Stickpin another chance to atone for last week. Upon viewing replays, I think that the pace of the race last week didn't suit. Gotta Have Heart led all the way and nothing really made ground. He is down in class here, there will be plenty of pace on with leaders Muzdaher, Camp Kalani and Escadaire engaged. One more chance for Stickpin. (SCRATCHED)
The Group 3 Eclipse Stakes looks a nice race for Flash Trick. He won the Hong Kong Jockey Club Plate on Melbourne Cup day at his last start. 1800 metres is a good distance for him, the sting will be out of the track and this is an easier race than his last win. Stick with him. Shinzig is the main danger but he hasn't won in over 2 years. His run in the Emirates was good but his poor win strike rate is too much to ignore. Back Flash Trick
Itstheone has raced very well without much luck in his last three starts, he was beaten a neck by Fire in The Night who went on to win the Coongy handicap at his next start, he then ran very well behind Emerald Jack in the Cranbourne Cup, he probably didn't see the 2025 metres out on that day and last start he was chopped out at a vital stage and lost momentum, he was beaten a neck by O'Reilly's Clock and the inerference he suffered definitely cost him the race. He's ready to win
TIP SUMMARY

Sandown
Race 2 No. 3 Kalash
Race 5 No. 2 Stickpin (SCRATCHED)

And a bonus which should be good value Ascot (Perth) race 1 number 5 Western Tide, ran a ripper on debut and can go on with it here.
