Keeping the roll going
December 6th 2007 11:33
Punters Daily is off to a flier in December with a 66% win strike rate and a profit on investment of 70% in the first week of December. The toughest thing for a punter is keeping a roll going, punters can get over confident and raise their stakes substantially or try and bet everywhere. Alternatively, they can go into their shell and deny themselves an opportunity to capitalise on a good run.
At the Valley on Friday night, pickings are a little slim but there is one of interest going around in race 4. It may only be a maiden event but it has a most interesting runner. Tony Santic of Makybe Diva fame has imported a stallion from Germany to race here in Australia. Anteros, named after the Greek god of requited love, makes his debut over 1200 metres. He is by the German champion sire Big Shuffle who was placed in the Group 1 July Cup over 1200m in England. He is out of a Caerleon mare Aerleona who was Group placed up to a mile in Ireland. He is well bred for speed and bear in mind that Tony Santic’s last imported horse to race here from Europe was in fact Makybe Diva. He is drawn out in the car park but might just be worth an each way ticket at odds. TIP – split one unit and back Anteros each way.
At Caulfield on Saturday, the standard is not high but winners are there to be found. Coolmore Stud produces a filly out of the David Hayes yard. On debut in Adelaide she sat just off the speed and won easily. I think she may be being produced here with the aim of winning some off season races to get enough prizemoney to enter black-type races in either Melbourne or Adelaide in late summer. To be successful in those races she must win races like these and I think she can win here. TIP – Back Musidora
We have to wait until the last for our next chance. Sensational Toy is racing in great heart and showed great courage to work very hard and hold on to win last start. She has drawn perfectly to take a trail into the race. She has had three runs from a let-up and will be cherry ripe for this and can win. Diamond Cove was impressive last time at the Valley but rises to 59 kilos with an apprentice on. Her Caulfield record is only fair but she is the main danger. TIP – Sensational Toy.
We are just going off the beaten track a bit, in Adelaide race 2 we see Stokehouse make his debut. Stokehouse is by the vastly underrated sire Anabaa who has a very good strike rate with first starters as his progeny are early runners at their best in their two and three year old seasons. Stokehouse is by the multiple city winner Malapert. He is bred to show speed early in his career and might be a bit too quick here.
Stawell is provincial Victoria’s venue on Saturday and. Peter Moody is sending one to Stawell looking for an easy victory to kick off a horse’s career. Mr Frog goes around in race 3. It is by Brief Truce out of the good producing mare Sovehet who has had seven foals to race for six winners. This doesn’t look overly strong and Mr Frog can kick off his career with an easy win. TIP – Mr Frog
Race 4 at Stawell sees Free the Robber going around. He was caught wide on a very fast pace last start at Moonee Valley last start and was only beaten three lengths in far superior class to what he faces here. He may be over the odds in a seven horse field and is worth a small wager.
Hong Kong have their international day on Sunday, a preview will be up on Saturday night or early Sunday morning.
